Mike Weil is a born-and-raised San Antonian who has been sewing since high school (nearly 20 years). He worked for 9 years as a high school teacher who ran the school's costume shop after-hours. During a brief stay in Manhattan, he worked for just over one year as a notions buyer in the Garment District. Now he's the owner of Blue Armadillo Sewing Company, an apparel-focused fabric store which offers classes and programming in garment construction as well as other textile work.
Workshop activities: During this workshop, we'll learn some basic techniques with thread and a hand-sewing needle. We'll cover how to prepare a needle and thread for hand stitching, some simple stitches to be used when repairing garments, and how to attach or reattach a button to a garment.
